On my road the parking pattern (half empty during the day, overflowing at night) suggests that the problem is no commuters using the spaces, but home owners, many with multiple cars. The CPZ will only remove spaces from corners and force me to pay the council for the privilege.
Unless the council has a plan to get people to only have one (reasonably sized) car and penalize people whose contractors take up 4-5 spaces for weeks on end (two on my road at the moment) nothing is going to change.
I also fear that more and more front gardens will be converted to driveways, destroying the look of the whole area (see Sydney Road if you don't believe me...)
I totally agree with the previous poster that it will do absolutely nothing to make more spaces available for residents. On the contrary, the council admits that it will reduce available on-street parking spaces, due to the restrictions imposed by the bays. It's an additional tax that the council wants to levy, nothing more. And nowhere in the information package do they provide any details of what they propose to do with the money!
