As part of Science Week, The Exchange, in conjunction with Richmond Film Society, are screening 'Hidden Figures', winner of 37 awards worldwide and nominated for three 2017 Academy Awards, including Best Motion Picture.
Set in the early 1960s, the film tells the incredible and, until recently, unknown story of three brilliant African-American female mathematicians who played a vital role in the momentous launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit in 1962. Overcoming racial and gender barriers, their contribution was to prove a pivotal moment in the Space Race, following the earlier successful Soviet launch of Yuri Gagarin.
