We are local members of an international lay Buddhist society, practising the teachings of Nichiren Daishonin and following the Lotus Sutra teachings.
SGI has members in 193 countries and territories including the UK. Members meet in groups locally and at present we have three centres including Taplow Court in Berkshire, our main cultural centre.
Local groups of members respectfully open their homes to host meetings throughout the month. These include an open forum based on a chosen theme and topics covered focus on how this Buddhism helps issues ranging from relationships, health, work, the environment and communities to global issues and human rights. The open forums are very suitable for guests to come along to and observe, or to take part in discussion.
There are also Basics of Buddhism meetings held once a month to help those who have started to practise the teachings.
Our meetings which are warm and welcoming, always commence with a short recitation of two passages from the Lotus Sutra followed by the chanting of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, before an informal talk or discussion. Duration of meeting max 90 minutes.
