The 1st St Margarets Scout Group (a.k.a '1stmar'), founded in 1919, was the first and remains the only Scout Group in St.Margarets.

Currently they have three sections - Beavers (6 to 8 year olds), Cubs (8 to 10½ year olds) and Scouts (10½ to 14½ year olds). They are a very active Group and meet each Wednesday evening in St Stephen's School Hall. (Entrance on the A316)

As well as taking part in many games and activities in the Hall the Beavers also enjoy trips and sleepovers away from base. These include 'Fun Days', Beaver 'prowls', gardening and visits to places as diverse as old people's homes, fire stations and hospitals.

In similar style the Cubs also appreciate time away with nights away in places like HMS Belfast and London Zoo and an annual camp at Walton Firs. As well as enjoying a regular Summer Hike the Cubs are active participants in many other district scouting events. Thanks to their 'soapbox cart' skills 1stmar has held the Kubs 'Kart Wars' Kup for the last 5 years. Their football team is red hot too!

The Scouts go camping at least 4 times a year, where they take part in activities such as archery, rifle shooting, backwoods cookery, orienteering, surfing and scaring themselves silly at the annual Halloween ScareFest. Many of the older Scouts remain in the Group to become 'Young Leaders' with the Beavers and the Cubs.

Demand for places in the Group is very high in all sections - but special provision is often made for the children of parents/carers who are willing to join as 'leaders' or voluntary 'helpers'. For more information please contact the Group Scout Leader on:-
