The Great Benefactress

If ever there was a growth industry in Old Isleworth it was the founding of almshouses. Over the last 400 years these small, well built, terraced cottages have provided a secure home for some of the district’s most vulnerable people. The names of the almshouses:- Butler’s, Bell’s, Farnell’s, Ingram’s, Rayment’s, Tolson’s and Sermon’s are a reminder of the generous benefactors who bequeathed money for the benefit of the less fortunate members of their community. This is the story of one of them- “a great benefactress to the parish.”

Event Reminder: East Twickenham Christmas Switch-On - 7 December 2012

Come and see the lights switched on in Richmond Road, East Twickenham. The Mayor will be switching on the lights on the big tree at the foot of the bridge at 6pm. The Salvation Army Band will be playing carols. There’ll be mince pies and maybe even something to drink. And the shops will be open late for some present browsing.

Event Reminder: Life under Occupation - 13 December 2012

Come and meet a Palestinian Gandhi at the Richmond Unitarian Church at 7.30pm on 13 December 2012. Mousa abu Maria, one of the leaders of the growing Palestinian grassroots, non-violent activism campaign of resistance to the Israeli military occupation. He is from Beit Ummar in the West Bank where an Israeli settlement has taken 65% of his community’s land. He is married to a Jewish Israeli woman and works closely with many Jewish Israeli peace activists.

Any Qualified Provider and the NHS Reforms

As part of the health reforms brought in by the coalition government, the NHS is rolling out AQP contracts for services to the patients of local GPs. AQP (Any Qualified Provider) contracts will be commissioned by groups of local GPs called CCGs (Care Commisioning Groups) for primary healthcare services. These services will include musculoskeletal services for back pain and neck pain, community wound dressing services, diagnostic imaging services among others.
