Twickenham’s annual Festival is this year filled with music, fun and action-packed events. From 12th – 21st June a huge variety of community activities will take place. The first weekend kicks off with:
Friday 12th June, the now traditional Twickenham Festival Tug of War, starting at 6pm on Church Street. Don’t miss the teams showing their strength – come and cheer them on! Alfresco Dining is available for those who have built up an appetite; finish your meal off with a little culture at either the Mary Wallace Theatre, it has a Shakespeare performance to enjoy or at the Bearcat Comedy Club night, special guest still top secret!
Saturday 13th June has something available to suit all tastes. A few delicious samples at the Farmers Market, Holly Road could start your day, where a special hog roast will be on offer. Then, you can choose either to hot-foot it to the Riverside for the Marriott Twickenham Dragon Boat Challenge, or if you have pre-booked, you could be on your way to see the inside of Pope’s Grotto, Turners House or York House.
Church Street will be bustling with a Local Craft Market, song, music, theatre and a Dog-Training Show. Don’t miss the Morris Dancers performing or the “Mary Poppins” themed Fayre at St Mary’s Parish Church.
Back at the Riverside, Arthur’s Cafe and Playground is hosting a Treasure Island Fun Day, for both small and large budding Captain Hooks! Cross over to Eel Pie Island where you will find both the Phoenix Festival offering food, drink and music until 4pm, and the Richmond Yacht Club opening their doors from 2pm for afternoon tea.
It doesn’t end there, Saturday night sees Jazz at the Crown Bar and Kitchen, check-out the Festival programme for more details of all the 13th’s varied events.
Sunday 14th June offers activities both in Twickenham and St Margarets. Highlights will be the spectacular Twickenham Carnival parade, leaving York House at 12pm at arriving at Orleans House for 1pm where the party will continue, and the St Margaret’s Family Fun Day with a fun-fair, games and competitions. On June 15th, test yourselves at the Twickenham Quiz night at the Cabbage Patch, the 16th, enjoy Jazz and music on the River Cruise, test your coffee taste buds at Starbucks on the 17th and on the 18th and 19th take a well earned rest dining Alfresco in Church Street. Arrive early on the Friday as the Italian Market will be open all day, you can pop along on the Saturday or Sunday for a taste of La Dolce Vita market.
Twickenham’s fabulous Festival Fun Day on Twickenham Green starts at 12pm on the 20th and is packed with music from local bands, fairground rides and plenty of stalls to delight. Do save some energy and keep your picnic rug to hand for Sunday 20st’s Strawberry Hill Music and Family Fun Day from 11.30am, at Strawberry Hill House.
Throughout the Festival, the 2009 chosen charity, the United Reformed Church will be selling raffle tickets for this year’s Festival Raffle. Buy a ticket or two and you could be in with the chance of winning a holiday in Italy for four.
