We have received a report that there is currently a fire at Tesco. Apparently there is a lot of smoke and a fire engine has arrived. Everyone seems to be safe.
Update: at 6pm, I spoke to a fireman, still at Tesco, who said the “fire was in the store room and we still don’t know the cause.”
Update: The Richmond & Twickenham Times have an article on the fire with a few more details.

I see that tesco are working hard to get things s back to normal, first step park a contractors lorry in the bus stop and then let a bus unload on the crossing.
colin on 2007-04-27 22:35:40 +0000I too have found this fire very inconvenient and another example of Tesco riding roughshod over local businesses. Local shops used to have fires at times convenient for local people. I saw a Waitrose go up in smoke once and it was definitely higher quality. Buck up Tesco!
Tony on 2007-04-30 11:17:50 +0000Following a fire at the Tesco Express in St Margarets, we would like to apologise to our neighbours and customers for the inconvenience this has caused. The most important thing is that no-one was injured during the incident. We hope to re-open the store on Thursday, subject to the necessary work being completed and new stock being available. We are using the local church car park for staff and contractors whilst everyone is working hard to get the store re-opened and we have made a donation to the church as thanks for use of this facility.
We would like to apologise once again for the inconvenience caused by the incident and whilst the work continues. We hope to welcome customers and neighbours back to the store as soon as possible. If you would like any further information, please contact our customer services team on 0800-028-6428.
