From April, 20 hanging baskets will be displayed on the St Margarets high streets.
By sponsoring the 50+ Christmas Trees displayed on St Margarets Road and Crown Road this winter the St Margarets’ Traders Association applied for and received a “Civic Pride Grant” from the Richmond Council. They used this money for both the large Christmas tree at the intersection of Crown and St Margarets Roads and to purchase the baskets and pay for their upkeep through 2005.

I think the hanging baskets are a great idea - will make the high street look nice.
aaa on 2005-05-08 08:38:53 +0000We have funding ready for 20 baskets and to maintain the baskets for 9 months. The contractor is ready to start. We are waiting for final approval from the council.

I notice Twickenham have put their hanging baskets up today so I wonder what is causing the Council to delay the final approval. Come on Councillors Summer is comming!
Ann Murray on 2005-05-09 13:38:50 +0000Finally, after waiting months, we have been given permission to display hanging baskets on council lampposts (the council have been waiting for their contractor to complete a lamppost survey). Hurrah, we thought, we can at last start this project- until 10 minutes later when we had another call from the council, this time telling us that we need to arrange for £5m insurance cover for the baskets. We have asked the council why we need to cover this additional cost. The baskets are being displayed on council property and are funded by the council civic pride fund, so why are they not covered by the council insurance? This is being looked into by the council and I hope to report back soon.

Pat has agreed to help us with our hanging baskets and the council agree that if we use Pat's supplier then the council will insure the baskets. Thanks Pat
